10 Questions to Ask About Your Wedding Stationery

Article | Live Love Last

You have the ring, picked a date and venue, now it’s time to start thinking about your wedding stationery! Your stationery is able to help set the tone for the whole event, whether it be a rustic wedding or maybe you’ve decided to have a black and white themed event. You can personalize your wedding ‘Save the Date’ cards, invitations, RSVP cards, and more with your color palette, themed fonts, or even engagement photos. When you start to put together your stationery, there are a few things to ask yourself.

1. What items do you need?

if you are having a destination wedding, your guests may need further notice than traditional weddings – typically 6-8 months rather than the normal 4-6 months. You may even consider creating custom luggage tags for your guest to attach to their bags for easy identification in the airport bag check.

2. How many guests are you expecting?

Your vendors are going to want a head count to know how many to seat or plan meals for. By using RSVP cards you are able to keep an accurate count on what to plan for. You can even preprint their names on the card to avoid receiving cards back with just numbers.

3. Is your wedding going to be outdoors?

A great way to cool off your guest during hot outdoor weddings to make your program out of something they can fan themselves off with or even shade their eyes from bright sun.

4. Do you have a theme?

By picking out your theme or colors in the beginning of the planning process, you are able to create a fully branded wedding which will make our wedding day much more cohesive.

5. are you having a lot of guests from out of town?

When having guests from out of town, it is helpful to include addresses and even a map to the location for the weekend – especially if your ceremony and reception are in different locations.

6. Will there be assigned seating?

Choosing between place cards, which designate a specific seat at a table, or an escort card that helps guest reserve their seat, can be a difficult decision. A good rule of thumb to choose place cards is if you are close to capacity and don’t have the ability to include extra tables for guests to space themselves out further.

7. Is there going to be a champagne toast?

A great way to really personalize and thank your guests for sharing in your celebration is to have custom coasters and wine charms on their champagne flutes for their favors. You can include your names, their names, and even your wedding date.

8. Do you need signage?

Whether you want to have a large sign for a program, seating chart, near your guest book, or even your gift table, it will be helpful to your guests to experience everything your day has to offer.

9. what is the timeline for your wedding?

Your ‘Save the Date’ cards should usually be sent out approximately 4-6 months prior to the wedding. With destination weddings they should be send about 6-8 months prior. Your invitation should go out in the mail around 8 weeks ahead of your wedding date. Following these timelines will help ensure that your guests have plenty of notice for travel and accommodations. Once the wedding is over, don’t forget to thank your guests for their thoughtfulness with ‘Thank You’ notes. Your ‘Thank You’ notes should ideally be sent within three months of receiving a gift.

10. Have you reviewed your proofs?

Before anything is printed, you should receive proof of the design. Make sure you verify spelling, dates, times, addresses, and the design itself before it goes to print. You don’t want the cards to come back with a different date on it or a typo that was missed. Consider having a few people review it as well, to be sure everything is accurate.
