Jayna + Adam met at a bonfire back in the summer of 2008. Adam asked Jayna to make him a s’more before asking for her number. And the rest is history! As high school sweethearts, the couple has endured a lot together––awkward stages, college, and even a breakup before fully realizing how much they were meant for one another.
Adam’s career in hockey has created some long distance in their relationship. But even through the distance, they always found stability and happiness in the mutual things they love––creating traditions.
Some of their traditions (that they carried over into their engagement photos) have been: visiting Grand Ole Creamery Ice Cream every summer, exchanging gifts on December 23rd, and a special date night every year (ice skating, looking at lights, dinner, etc). “It was always the one night that remained consistent in all the years of dating, distance, and our love story,” Jayne writes.
Their proposal started like every other year, on their December 23rd tradition of a special date night.“It was the 9th year anniversary of our holiday tradition. This time, dinner at The Commodore in Saint Paul, ending in a horse-drawn carriage ride on St. Anthony Main, near where we attended college at the University of Minnesota. Though a stubborn horse controlling the carriage ride, he finally stopped at the most glistening, beautiful spot on the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, under twinkling lit pine trees, and soft, dancing snowflakes. The two of us quickly hopped out to snap a picture of the scenery, and when I turned around to grab the attention of someone to take a photo, Adam was down on one knee, asking me for his hand in marriage. With instant tears, and jumping into his arms, my answer was (obviously) YES! In that moment, time stood still, the last 8+ years was worth it all, and my first love, was now my forever. Thank God for s’mores, right? Nearly a decade in the making, I’m finally marrying the love of my life and can’t wait!”
How cute are those stories?! We are SO excited for the happy couple!
Their engagement session with Alli of Alli Peters Photography was spent at sentimental places. They filled the summer evening walking up and down Grand Avenue in St. Paul, licking ice cream cones at Grand Ole Creamery, and concluded the photo session with an intimate bonfire at Jayna’s parents’ house––the same way they began their relationship.
Alli wrote to us, “I’ve known Jayna and Adam from a distance for a couple years because we went to college together, but when you spend time with them one on one, it’s clear how in love they are just by walking down the street with them. I couldn’t help but laugh the whole time, because you can see that Adam and Jayna think the other is quite literally the funniest person in the world, giggling the whole time, laughing at each others jokes, tripping over each others feet because they’re walking so close together and holding hands the whole time – I hardly had to tell them to move. I just snapped pictures and talked with them as they spent some quality time together and told me about all their future plans.”
Jayna + Adam are set to marry in August of 2018 in St. Paul.
