Start Planning ASAP

If you start planning your health and wellness regime right around the time you start wedding planning, it’ll become a routine right away and help you avoid things like crash dieting in a last attempt to drop pounds. You’ll want to aim to reach any goals you set about 4 weeks before your wedding, which is typically around the time you’ll be having your final fittings. This will help you focus on wrapping up the details of the wedding rather than worrying about your body.

Set Short Term Goals

It’s a lot more manageable to stay focused when you have a small goal over a short period of time. Taking your health and wellness plan one month at a time, or even one week at a time, will keep your regime manageable. Consider setting small goals such as running a 5k, getting those 10,000 steps in each day, or going up another few pounds in your free weights.

Additionally, try not to focus solely on weight loss. Focus on keeping exercise and a healthy diet in your routine to manage your stress, to sleep better, and maintain an overall healthy lifestyle during this important time in your life.

Pick the Right Workouts

Finding the right workout regimes to fit your needs is key to maintaining your routine and to seeing tangible results. Whether you’re fitting in a brisk walk, a yoga class, or training for a half marathon, breaking a sweat is all that matters.

If you’re short on time, consider using a HIIT (High intensity interval training) workout which consists of short bursts of intense exercise with small rest intervals. Each workout is designed to provide results in a short period of time- most workouts are 30 minutes or shorter. HIIT is a full body workout that allows you to burn just as many calories in twenty minutes that you can spending hours in the gym by combining cardio and weight training. It may also be in your best interest to invest in a heart rate monitor to track your progress, hit the right zones, and stay safe in your workouts.

If it fits within your budget think about joining a gym, a yoga studio, or consider getting a few sessions with a personal trainer. A personal trainer is a great way to get tips on how to target specific areas on your body you’re looking to tone or get some healthy eating tips.

Keep A Food Diary

If healthy eating isn’t your strong suit or you are looking to shed a few pounds before the wedding, keeping track of what you are eating will help you notice certain habits you may have that you can change. This can also help to make sure you are eating enough. Often times the stress of wedding planning can keep your appetite down, and tracking when and what you’re eating will hold you accountable to your physical and mental health.

Avoid Crash Dieting

Crash diets are never a good idea no matter the circumstances. There are no health benefits to crash dieting, they are unlikely to give you the results you want and can potentially cause more harm than good. You may find that a lot of “wedding programs” recommend restricting calories- but this most likely will not be sustainable and can be harmful to your body. Finding a regime that is easy to stick to, will keep your energy up, and is safe.
