A David’s Real Wedding: Amanda & Kayla’s Switzerland Celebration

This David’s real wedding tells the story of Amanda Tumbrink and Kayla Hawk, who met by chance on a dating app and immediately knew they found something special. “When I found my person, it felt like everything clicked into place. The moment we met, it was like I was able to breathe deeply and know, without a shadow of a doubt, that she was the one I’d been searching for,” Amanda shares. So, when it came time for Amanda’s proposal in their living room, it was an easy yes for Kayla.

“I proposed first in our living room. I was filled with nervous energy, stuttering and trying to find the right words through happy, tear-filled eyes. We both knew the moment was perfect, but my emotions were so overwhelming that it was hard to get the question out. Between the tears and the laughter, you could hardly believe what was happening, yet it felt so right.”

“She proposed in return the following morning. This proposal was even more emotional, as we both had already been through so much together. The nervousness was still there, but this time it felt like a sweet dance of love and vulnerability. Stumbling over words and trying to hold back tears, the moment was raw, full of joy and overwhelming love. We didn’t need perfect words, just the certainty of wanting to spend forever together. We both of you knew, even in the chaos of emotions, that this was the beginning of something beautiful.”

They were married on September 11, 2023 in an intimate elopement in Wengen, Switzerland.

Q: Tell us about your wedding day!
A: The day started early, with the crisp alpine air filling our lungs as you made our way through the Swiss Alps. The mountains stood tall, their peaks dusted with snow, while the sun slowly rose, casting a golden glow over the breathtaking landscape. We spent the very long day filming the wedding, capturing moments of pure joy and love against the backdrop of majestic peaks and rolling meadows.
As we moved through the picturesque valleys, the distant sound of cowbells echoed through the air, adding an authentic Swiss touch to the scene. Cows leisurely grazed nearby, adding to the charm of the setting. The onlookers, many of them locals, took in the spectacle with warm smiles, adding to the sense of community and togetherness.
Throughout the day, we were treated to moments of local hospitality. Schnapps was passed around, offering a taste of the region’s traditions and a moment to relax and enjoy the scenery. The warmth of the people, combined with the cool mountain breeze, made for an unforgettable experience.
By the end of the day, as the sun set behind the mountains, we couldn’t help but feel a deep appreciation for the beauty of the Swiss Alps, the joy of the wedding, and the unique journey we had been part of. It wasn’t just about the footage—it was about the connection between the land, the people, and the love that filled the air. A perfect day in every way.

Q: How did you avoid wedding stress?
A: We were nervous and wanted everything to be perfect. Lots of deep breaths and going with the flow. Just relax, enjoy yourself, and take it all in! You will hold these memories sacred forever.

Q: What was your favorite DIY or personal touch?
A: We researched and planned our vacation and elopement ourselves. Seeing it all come together was amazing and it went so smoothly we were over the moon!

Q: What was the most memorable moment of the day?
A: Slow dancing to our wedding song on a cliff side above Lauterbrunnen was heaven on earth. It felt like we were the only 2 people on the planet and in that moment, it was just about us and our love.

Both Amanda and Kayla tied the knot wearing David’s dresses from favorites Melissa Sweet and DB Studio.

Q: What was your favorite detail about your looks?
A: The simplicity was beautiful and elegant. Exactly what we were looking for. We wanted to compliment the beauty of our surroundings and not take away from it.

Q: Do you have any shopping advice for future brides?
A: Don’t focus so much on the designer or cost, just find something that makes you feel beautiful and go for it. When we found our perfect dresses at David’s, we just knew. It’s a wonderful feeling.

David's Real Wedding: Amanda and Kayla

Amanda and Kayla’s love story is proof that the best weddings aren’t just about perfect details—they’re about the perfect match. For when it comes to knowing how you’ve found “the one”, Amanda’s advice is simple: “She embodies everything I’ve ever wanted, not just in a partner, but in a deep connection with someone who feels like they were meant for me. The certainty you feel is powerful, because love with your person doesn’t feel like something to work at—it feels natural, easy, like two pieces that fit together perfectly.”

Q: What is your best wedding planning advice for other brides planning their weddings?
A: This day is about you. Concern yourself less with making your guests comfortable and happy, and focus on making your day exactly what you dreamt it to be. We decided to forego the traditional big wedding with tons of guests, and instead spent our $$ traveling abroad and having a destination elopement! If you are planning an elopement abroad, especially in an outdoor location, WEAR COMFY SHOES!

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share?
A: I strongly recommend destination elopement for your wedding as we did with ours. It was amazing! In that quiet, magical setting, it was just the two of us, focusing solely on each other—no distractions, just pure love. The entire experience, from the stunning mountain views to the cozy moments with each other, became a symbol of the new chapter we were beginning, filled with love and endless possibilities.
